I am fully aware that I am guilty as charged as an experimenter and I have asked for support with a RPi based Start9 server that does run Bitcoin Core. I get that the hardware isn’t up to the job now in 2026, I see that my SSD is at 98% and I know that my goose is cooked in this respect.
My last experiment was to spin up a new Start9 server on a 1litre class PC using Proxmox. This experiment worked just fine until I discovered that the 1TB NVMe SSD I had was in fact a fake and the sync with Bitcoin failed, disk was read only once it got to it’s actual max.
I do keep regular backups of my Start9 server so this really is a simple question.
If I restore from a backup created on my Raspberry Pi server to a Start9 instance running in Proxmox to a 2TB SSD (genuine this time!) is it likely to work?
Hi, yes you can do that but there are a few things to take into account when doing a restore form backup, mainly that any Lightning Channels you had open will close when restoring from backup.
So grateful @OKIN
I am also guilty of not reading the documentation properly. This is in fact just what I hope to do. I wish to migrate my node to a Dell PC running Start9 in the Proxmox environment but migrate to a bigger and adequate drive at the same time.
Again, thank you.
I will post an update here once I have a try at this
