Screwed up migration to 0.4.0

I got to the booting up process for 0.4.0 but failed to select preserve and I appear to have wiped the machine. Now I can’t even access the machine on my network.

Can someone help!

Thanks,

Rich

Considering that there are two of you in the last few days, do you have any suggestions about how we might clarify the instructions to be less likely misunderstood or skipped over?

Before you restore however, I’d recommend we discuss the process, and things you need to be aware of. What services were you running?

I’ll start with feedback on the process.

I should have waited for the full version to come out and let it do everything automatically.

However, given that I foolishly thought I could do this, the biggest problem comes from having to jump around between webpages, for instance, starting the process while instructions on a page, then the next step is a link to a page that explains another supporting process, where it is an older page that is pre version 4. Another is branching, if X do A, if not, or if you have Y, unless you were using Z, in which case B or C applied…You get the picture.

For the services I was running, here they are as best I can remember: Knots plus BIP 110; electrs; mempool; DATUM; Ocean Dashboard; CLN; Public Pool.

I think that’s it.

I backed up to a SSD (LaCie) plugged into the server.

Thank you for the feedback. The public beta is our opportunity to find ways to streamline the process. Thank you for your contribution.

When you restore 0.3.5.1, you’ll choose the restore from backup recovery option. Bitcoin’s blockchain is not saved in the backup. So after restoring, it will take some time to sync with the network. Likely days or even weeks depending on your system hardware.

The problem is twofold.

1. I read those instructions before messaging you so sending them back to me is not helpful. I am not sure what I’m supposed to do. Should I do a factory reset? Should I try to boot up 3.5.1 on a flash drive? The instructions are full of links to other pages and arcane language.

2. I can’t even communicate with the server on my network.

I have flashed 0.3.5.1 and have inserted the flash drive into the usb port on the front of the server. When I type http://start.local I get the following message.

BTW, I did a full back up on 3.5.1 prior to attempting all this. I just can’t reach the device.

I understand your pain. We’re here to hep. The steps in the guide I linked to will be the necessary steps to recover your server. If you have a server purchased from Start9, I’d strongly recommend to join our live support server, so we can go through the steps one at a time with you in real time.

Excellent! However, I don’t know the Access Code.

If it’s an old server, it will be on a label on the bottom of the server. You purchased your server within the last few years, it would be in the order conformation email that was sent when you bought the server. If you cannot find it, please DM me your order number or email address, and we can look it up for you.

I logged in to that. What now? The Privat Support Server doesn’t look much different to me than the community.

Did you forget about me? I went on the support server so what happens now?
