This must be something related to Start9 itself. I’m trying the fix outlined here:
I have GMKTEC M5 5825U. The same problem as you. Mini PC freezes every day, two days, week. Tried installing various kernels, drivers.
The fix is to edit your grub file. It is some bug with headless state that cause kernel panic.
Fix:
ssh to your start9 server
sudo -i
sudo /usr/lib/startos/scripts/chroot-and-upgrade
sudo nano /etc/default/grub
Now edit your “GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=blabla”
with
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=“quiet splash video=off amdgpu.dc=0 amdgpu.dpm=0 iommu=pt amdgpu.aspm=0”
CTRL+X (to save the file), then y and enter (to confirm change and exit editor)
exit (this will reboot the server)
This should work. At least works for me . I have months of uptime
Very much appreciated. I will give it a shot!
Yes, but even upgrading kernel didn’t solve anything. Only grub fix below.
How did that go?
I will say something we noticed with the 5825U on the Server One – in case you’re not doing it – sometimes the CPU requires >65watts so if your power supply is 19v * 3.42amps only, get one that’s 19v * 4.7amp (such as):
https://www.amazon.com/Futurebatt-Adapter-Charger-E320VP-M261VP/dp/B07C6YB2FJ
It has something to do with when it clocks up, and requires the extra power. So it could just be under-powered.
I’ve been struggling with this EXACT same issue for the last couple months. Tried swapping out hardware, moved from a dell optiplex micro to a beelink ser5 mini, tried a fresh install of StartOS, checked logs, checked for excessive heat … many hours spent but nothing would solve it.
Thankfully I found your post & completed the grub file edit, and so far so good. THANK YOU! very much appreciated.
