“Migrating” from Citadel to Umbrel to StartOS after growing tired of having to fidget/fix/repair/fiddle after an upgrade or reboot (as my BTC node data is stored on a separate drive).

Unfortunately I couldn’t find [Snowflake](https://apps.umbrel.com/app/snowflake) (TOR Relay Proxy) in either marketplace or having the energy to understand how to publish on the Community Marketplace, so I managed to build an .s9pk file that could be side loaded (wonderful StartOS feature).

Should you want/need it, Snowflake available at [GitHub - tfriberg/snowflake-startos-sideloader: An attempt to make it possible to sideload Snowflake into StartOS · GitHub](https://github.com/tfriberg/snowflake-startos-sideloader) and have been confirmed working on StartOS v0.4.0-beta.9, runnning in a Proxmox VM installed from the official StartOS ISO.

Great work!

If you do want to get it published on the Community Marketplace here is the guide for that - [Publishing - Service Packaging](https://docs.start9.com/packaging/0.4.0.x/publishing.html) which also details how you can host this on your own self-hosted registry if you’d like.

did you keep the NAT restricted ? i am running snowflake on my rasperry and worked around the NAT Type, i just used your libary to build also my own snowflake version for Start 9 🙂 great input… I checked the actual code that defines this package’s networking (`startos/main.ts` and `startos/interfaces.ts`, using StartOS SDK v1.5.3 — confirmed by inspecting the installed SDK’s type definitions directly). Two things:

1. The package currently only exposes **one** thing to the network: the web dashboard UI, bound via `bindPort(80, {protocol: 'http'})` — that’s the table you screenshotted. The actual `snowflake-proxy` process itself has **zero** ports exposed to the LAN/WAN right now.
2. More fundamentally: StartOS’s packaging SDK (the `MultiHost`/`bindPort` interface system) is built entirely around **TCP** — HTTP, HTTPS, WS, raw TCP, SSH, DNS. I searched the whole SDK’s type definitions for any UDP-publishing capability and found none; the only UDP-related code is a health-check that reads `/proc/net/udp` to see if a port is _already_ listening — nothing that forwards UDP traffic from outside.

ill let it run as a test for now to see the difference in connections between NAT restricted and unrestricted…

Good catches. I am not certain about neither 1 nor 2, but fortunately it was forked and cleaned up at [GitHub - alru78/snowflake-startos-sideloader: An attempt to make it possible to sideload Snowflake into StartOS · GitHub](https://github.com/alru78/snowflake-startos-sideloader/) and that repo made it all the way into [GitHub - Start9-Community/snowflake-startos-sideloader: An attempt to make it possible to sideload Snowflake into StartOS · GitHub](https://github.com/Start9-Community/snowflake-startos-sideloader) and can therefor be installed without sideloading. Only issue now is that the name is misleading ;).

I was very happy you forked it (which is why I put it there in the first place) and I saw the fancy dashboard 😁 . It seems its not only available in the beta community (I think). I couldn’t be more happy. A gap needed filling. I tried my best. Pros made improvements and it ended up in the community marketplace. Open source at its’ best 😃.

As not to "trick# anyone to rely on my initial build, I have removed the s9pk file and updated the release note pointing to the now proper channels.

Thats strange that you cant see it in the beta community, actually i dont recall if i had to first deinstall my sideload version or not, now that you mention it!

i hope to publish it this week, since i wanted to ensure the dashboard runs smoothly over 7 days at least, the community judges are out then!

I was probably unclear about “not _only_ available in the beta community”. I got an update notification in StartOS that there was an update in the Community marketplace to (my side loaded) Snowflake, which I applied successfully. So it worked like a charm!
