At my job I am a developer in Visual C++ 6, which is from literally previous millennia (it came out in 1996 and the support stopped around 2001)
In my free time I have lately found me a hobby of slowly removing as much of my personal data from the internet as possible.
So… I embarked on some kind of DIY route, first installing Home Assistant, then adding Jellyfin and all the download goodies. Then I started to look more closely into Bitcoin and came about the concept of sovereign citizenship. Turns out… this is pretty much what I wanted from the start!
So now… I’ve got me a refurbished Venus minipc from minisforum company, installed Proxmox on it and then attempted to make it all run in Umbrel. But it is not what I wanted at all. I had some reluctance in installing startOS because I didn’t see many updates coming down the pipe within the last year and was a bit worried the project is slowly starting to be neglected. But… I installed it… and it is working very nicely!
I really hope the project continues and the enthusiasm for it never falters.
