Hi all, 2nd question here after just a couple days of discovering Start9 and understanding I need a server. I began this node journey about a week ago following some YouTubers like BTC Session with their DIY Raspberry Pi vids, only to of course realize after purchasing all the components off amazon, that those videos were a couple years old and as you guys explain on the site, a Raspberry Pi is no longer a viable option. I’ve got an early 2014 Macbook air with similar specs to the “Known-Good Hardware MasterList” 2015 Macbook air. I also put together my own Asus barebones mini a couple years ago. I know Matt said that by selling the hardware is how they get paid, which I’m down with, but, is there any other hardware option that a computer / BTC nube like me should try first? Set up another cheaper mini or use that macbook air…? Any advice and guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Many people like the idea of recycling old hardware. You might as well install StartOS on it and see how it goes.
Macs though can be a little more tricky to deal with when it comes to installation, at least sometimes. Still though, worth a try if you’re not using it for anything.
Do all three! Install StartOS on both of those machines, and buy a server from Start9. Remember, StartOS is not a Bitcoin node. It’s a personal server OS, you can do all sorts of things with, to take back your sovereignty. From file storage and file sync, to messaging and chat, to your own private AI assistant, or your own Bitcoin & lightning node! You might want different servers for different purposes.
Take a look at the software registries for some of the great services currently available on StartOS:
Thanks guys. Good info.
