Adding a HDD to StartOS installation

I recently installed StartOS on an old fileserver of mine, to which I’ve added a 2TB SSD for StartOS. I have a HDD with media and backups on it that I would like to make available to StartOS, specifically NextCloud and I do not want my Bitcoin Core on the HDD as it’s meant for media storage and system/file backups. The documentation lists a method for mounting a drive, but the scope of that seems to be limited to mounting a drive with StartOS installed on it to another machine.

Is it as simple as adding it to /etc/fstab? There isn’t much in the way of filesystem management and I know StartOS isn’t intended to be modified too much, so I don’t know what assumptions the OS or services make in interacting with the filesystem.

Hi, please note that using additional storage drives is not currently possible on StartOS. This has been requested before here on the forum and in other support channels, but is not something you can currently achieve.

This might change after the next big release, either version 036 or 040, but that will most likely be announced via our social media channels so people will be made aware of it.

Ah, that’s a shame. Thanks for the answer

Hello Tahlus,
I just finished additing an external SSD drive to my Server Pure for backing up purposes.
No problem if that is your intent.
Regards,

That’s the one thing currently supported. Connect a drive and it will automatically default to being a backup target. The OP was asking about connecting external drives and then somehow pointing different services to different drives… quite complex functionality to build into the OS.
