Hey, there. I have a question about StartOS. Yesterday I acidently tried a backup to the network folder at 80% sync. Everything went OK, but then the Bitcoin node got stuck when starting RPC and sync (RPC starting, sync starting) It took 10 hours before it started. Is this normal, or will it do this after every backup after 100% sync?
Thanks.
There’s no problem stopping and starting Bitcoin Core at any stage of the initial block download process. It’ll continue on from wherever it left off.
There are however rare issues in StartOS with docker containers where they’ll get stuck sometimes, and a restart of the machine via System → Restart will fix this.
It looks like this wasn’t your case because it started. I can’t say why it took 10 hours to start without seeing the logs. Any changes make to the configuration of Bitcoin Core might also yield some clues.
If you want to see if it will happen again, hit Stop wait a little while until it falls behind on the latest blocks, then hit Start. If it survives that, it’ll survive a backup.
Yes, I tried restarting both the Bitcoin core and the whole node.
In Bitcoin core I set only the memory (database cache) to 3500MB otherwise all default settings.
The backup was successful. Now I probably won’t do with it anymore, because I have 80% sync. After 100% sync I will try the whole backup process again and we will see.
Anyway, thanks for the reply.
So i stoped bitcoin node, did wait a little wait and it happend again. So i will see at morning. It is strange
Same problem… still starting.
New sync was starting… something goes wrong in my node. Even after 14 hours sync did not continue.
The only way to see exactly what is wrong is to examine the logs. You can send those to me after downloading from:
Bitcoin Core → Logs → Download (small icon)
Understood. I uninstalld bitcoin core and doing sync again… 50% done now. Old logs with problem are probably gone I will see what happend after sync was complet.
I saw new one log file after download and file with 10k logs ti starting with block 654785 today.
