Bitcoin Core Doesn't Appear To Be Syncing

HP EliteDesk 705 mini PC; not really sure about the specs on the CPU and RAM. Think it’s 8GB ram.

I did another re-index blockchain and I’m in the 30s now

Hopefully it will get through. Not sure what’s going in here. It might be that your hardware is not keeping up, or it could be some kind of intermittent network issue. Let’s hope it works this time

This is as far as I’ve gotten… I’ll just keep re-indexing my way to 100%… lol

What is the RPC server?

RPC or Remote Procedure Call is a way for different systems to talk to each other. For Bitcoin, RPC can be used to allow a wallet (like Sparrow) to connect to your Bitcoin node for checking balances on addresses, submitting transactions etc.

Whatever is getting it stuck on Starting or causing looping back to starting is going to be explained in the logs (Bitcoin Core → Logs)

But if it keeps happening over and over, there’s something seriously wrong somewhere… from an unstable internet situation… to an unstable power situation… to a bad disk.

I see you had talked about this 9 months ago. I am writing this on May 24, 2005. I had an Internet outage the other day (no power failure - I have an UPS) and now I get the exact same problem you have been discussing here except it is with Bitcoin Knots. I powered everything down and back and the problem persists. How did you resolve the problem back then? I have an off the shelf Start9 Pure 4-32 which I bought a year ago. None of the other services that depend on Knots start up either. Can I send you the logs?

If you’re the same person who posted this in the private support server, DM me there.

Hi! I have a Start9 Pure (purchased 7 months ago) and I just recently switched over to Knots as well, yesterday I had a quick power outage and I believe I am having the same problem. I am able to connect but Knots, Electrs just keep going “Starting” to a quick “Running” then back to just starting. I switched browsers, restarted via Start9, restarted from hardware on/off, and I did a rebuild with no success. I saw your other thread about “reindexing the blockchain” but I cannot figure out or find I previous post with steps on how to do a “reindex.”
Also I noticed you mentioned the Private Support Server, I didn’t receive a “code” for the lifetime support can you assist helping get access to that? Or who I could contact to get access. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Also I am using an old macOS Big Sur 11.7.10 if that is helpful. (And I found the code)

If you still need help with this, I’ll show you two places in v0351 of StartOS that’ll be of interest…

Every service keeps its own set of logs. To see those you go to the service, then click Logs.

Each service also has a set of Actions you can perform, depending on the service. To see those, you’d click on the service, then Actions, then choose an action.

In your case, you’d go to Knots → Logs to see what it says, then if necessary, Knots → Actions → Reindex

hi StuPleb - thank you! Log said, please restart with “reindex or reindex chainstate” - I stopped Knots and under Action chose “Reindex Blockchain” then started Knots again.
RPC shows a green success without looping which is an improvement. Now “syncing blockchain” at 0% progress. I am (or was) running a full node so hopefully will load quicker than not. I will reply once/if there is progress with the result. Thank you again.
