Bitcoin Knots deletion

Hello,

I have read the threads about Bitcoin Knots. I never remember installing this service. I have had my Server Pure for about a year now with zero problems until now.

Can I just uninstall this program? Will it delete the enitre BTC blockchain? I don’t even see BTC Core installed anymore. Essentially, since this KNots program appeared, My server pure is useless. I read the threads and went to develper mode and followed those instructions. Knots finially installed and all dependent services began to work again. Now I’m back to this starting loop again.

At this point I just want it gone. Sounds like its a cool addition but since it has appeared, it has rendered my server essentially useless. I can't deal anymore.

I just want BTC Core until things are fixed and play nicely with each other. Could someone please explain the steps to get BTC Knots off my server with minimal effects to BTC Core? I would very much apprecite this. This had been more than frusturating.

Thank you very much

Bitcoin Core and Knots are meant to be interchangeable with each other, without having to delete the blockchain, but the way that functionality was shoehorned into StartOS v0.3.5.1 makes switching between the two very confusing.

If, for instance, you have Bitcoin Core installed, and Bitcoin Knots comes out with an update, you’ll see an update to Knots available and seemingly encouraged. We’ve since coordinated Core and Knots releases on our marketplace so that this won’t be as confusing, but in any event, you probably saw an update while you had Core installed, and ended up switching to Knots. Since you’re on Knots now and you want to get rid of it without deleting the blockchain, you can go back to Core by:

Marketplace > Bitcoin Core > Re-Install
If you don’t see Re-Install available, go to System (on StartOS’s left-side menu) and then click “MANAGE” 5x. This will unlock Re-Installs in the marketplace.

Thank you for the reply. BTC Knots sounds good and all but at this moment it seems that I need to move back to Core. I look forward to further updates

George,

I followed your steps to get off of Knots. Now I have been stuck in a BTC Core starting loop for 2 days. I Have stopped all my serviceses on my server to try to resolve this. Could you please guide me to what to do next. Nothing seems to be working for me. I am totally bumed here. Thank you

No need for a reply, I’m just going to delete and reinstall BTC Core… I can’t go a month without having access to core which is mainly the reason for buying the Server pure to begin with.

I will say that in the future, you guys should not put something in the marketplace that does not play nice or function with one of your main apps. At no time did I go into the community registry and select to install BTC knots. And yes, I probably did select to install or update it when it popped up in my update section on my main page. But Knots has totally “knotted “ up my system and essentially made my server an expensive paperweight. Needless to say that I’m frustrated and frankly pissed about this situation. I appreciate the timely support on the matter…. I understand the reason for getting off of telegram and discord but when I had a question, it was promptly answered. I have referred at least 3 people to buy a server pure but will make sure to tell them that they should expect zero support if they run into a problem. Thanks again

Every server comes with a lifetime support package. You can get answers almost instantly by a real support technician if you go here:

I had the same thing, I tried to switch from core to knots and got stuck in an infinite loop. I tried everything and ended up having to uninstall and reinstall everything to get back to core.

Thanks for the response. I ultimately had to do the same thing. And completely uninstall Core and download the entire blockchain again. Knots sounds like it has some cool features but I wouldn’t touch it with a 10 foot pole until things are figured out. This entire scenario affected my entire Server Pure and Lightning Node. Since my Lightning node was down for so long, channels were closed from the other party. I have had the Server Pure for almost a year this May and never had a problem. And as I stated before, at no time did I go into the Community Registry and select to even try out Knots. And sure it might have popped up in my update section and I did probably press it. But this should have never been an option.

I’m over it all and have moved on but this was a big flub made by Start9 that they don’t want to seem to enirely admit or acknowledge. It was a waste of my time, your time and probably many others. Not to mention just bandwidth. Disappointed to say the least. Best to you that you are back up and running again too! Cheers

I’m sorry for the inconvenience and frustration caused by this issue. It’s not normal that Bitcoin Knots should bork your system. As a Server Pure owner, you are eligible for for lifetime live support, as George mentioned above. We could have helped you resolve the issue, the very same day. We’re there in the support channels 16 hours per day, seven days per week to assist. Please use the link provided above.

Thank you for the feedback. We understand the the confusion around the way Knots was made available in a hacky way. Doing so was a decision, with some trade-offs that we are aware of. This is being worked on, and will be resolved. Breaking your server however, is not one of the trade-offs. Usually when someone inadvertently switches to knots, it’s simply a matter of switching back. The issues you both experienced are not expected, nor usual. But things do happen, and that’s why we are available to assist. Come see us!

Dexter, I thought there where I was. I remember have no to enter a redemption code to get here. When I made an account awhile back. I will hit the you guys up in there as unfortunately I think I have run into more problems

I have my original invoice from Start9 and the redemption code on the bottom of the unit. But the link you send is asking me for an access code. Now I’m thinking I have lost a few million sats with LND via Alby. I have never had problem before. I totally bummed and a little freaking.

So how do I get an access code when I have an original invoice in my name with an order number and an access code. To my knowledge, I was never given one

The access code, formerly known as the redemption code, can be used here along with your email to set up your Matrix account and gain access to our support server. If the access code doesn’t work, please email ops@start9.com with your purchase invoice, access code, and a brief description of the issue. Someone will assist you promptly.
