Excuse my level of technical knowledge and understanding. I followed the May 2025 guide posted in this forum on how to upgrade from Bitcoin Core to Bitcoin Knots and I think I did it right. Now I am seeing in the ‘Updates’ section both Bitcoin Knots and Bitcoin Core as open for update? Does this mean I have not successfully switched from Core to Knots? Can I update to Knots 29.1, without somehow accidentally updating Core (which I don’t want to run).
I tried to re-do the steps from the Knots Switch Guide but there is no option (like before) to reinstall Knots. It just shows ‘view installed’ and ‘update’.
Yes, you can safely update Bitcoin Knots from the community registry. The update appears for both because, due to some technical limitations, StartOS currently treats both implementations as the same service. This approach allows Knots to work on StartOS without needing to resync the blockchain or reinstall services. In StartOS version 0.4.0, switching between implementations will be much smoother and more intuitive.
Hi h0mer, thanks very much for your quick reply! Regarding my other question, it looks like I have successfully switched to Knots? Now I understand why I see Core and Knots for update (I thought it was because I did not switch, and I just was wondering if there is any “sign” that would tell me I have not). Thanks!
Hey h0mer, is there any way to confirm that you are definitely running Knots? Or any sign? Is it enought that on the ‘Installed Services’ page it says Knots?
