Blockchain from SSD

Hello guys, noob trying to set up a node.

Chatgpt might have fooled me here. It said that running the blockchain from an SSD was not a bad idea because if something went wrong with the pc i could swap the SSD to other pc and didn’t need to sync everything again. And i went with it.

So I have a mini PC with 250 GB and an ED with 2 TB. The idea was to install Star9 on the internal disk and direct the blockchain to the ED.

this post from last year said it was not possible. So im wondering if its already a possibility?

If not, ill just run everything from the ED.

Thanks in advance.

You can install StartOS on one drive, and the other drive can contain the data partition. All service containers, including their data would reside in the data partition. StartOS does not have granular settings for which services or data goes where. All service containers go to the data partition, whether it’s on the same internal drive, or elsewhere.

The recommended hardware is a single large SSD. There is almost no benefit to using two drives. StartOS itself is very small, so most of your 250GB drive would be wasted. To run a Bitcoin stack, you’ll want the I/O speed of an internal SSD, or you’ll likely be dissatisfied wit the performance of your node.

Granular control of a multi drive setup in on the wish-list for a future version of StartOS.
