Can connect to the .onion address over LAN, but not over internet (NordVPN)

I’m a little confused. Is my server not actually connected to the tor network hosting the .onion? Why can I connected to the .onion address over LAN, but not over the internet via the Tor browser?

You should have access to both a .local and a .onion.

The .local you’ll be able to access over LAN.
The .onion you’ll be able to access anywhere, so long as it’s via the Tor network.

Tor browser alone should be sufficient. In StartOS, you’d go to System → About to get your tor address, which would look like this…

http://-----------.onion
or
https://-----------.onion

Pasting that into Tor Browser should bring up the StartOS login screen.

Should it not…
Possibility 1: Your Tor Browser is not correctly connected to the Tor network - make sure you have no issues on your client that would prevent Tor from working… unusual network configurations etc.

Possibility 2: Your server is not correctly connected to the Tor network . To confirm you can bring up your Tor logs under System → Tor Logs and see if there’s anything that’s failing to connect. Or click into System → Experimental Features and click Reset Tor. Or failing that, or maybe just to be save, restart the server and your router and see if that helps.

You specifically said NordVPN in the title. I was unable to connect to .local with nord running. I’ve swapped over to proton and it works much better. I told nord and my antivirus to trust .local but I’ve always had issues with nord, guess it just something you can not turn off.
