Any pointers. I set up Start9 on my own mini PC and it was running great.
But I decided to setup a firewall with pfsense
I connected it and I cannot connect to it locally via the noun-noun.local or the IP addressed assigned to my Start9 machine.
I can connect to it via the TOR address and its running fine.
I have other routers connected to my pfsense firewall and they all run fine and I can connect to them and login to those. The only machine I cant login to is the Start9 OS. Any one have any ideas why?
I just get this error We can’t connect to the server at…
We generally advise against using a firewall with your Server because of it causing problems with connections. If you are able to turn the firewall off and see that you are then able to connect to your noun-noun.local address then there might be a setting you need to alter in your firewall.

That said, since you can reach your server via Tor that would lead me to believe that the problem is with your firewall and pfsense setup.
I am very new to firewalls, so please excuse my questions…
I am thinking of setting up a physical firewall device and install pfsense, and switch my router to bridge mode. Will Start9 have to be physically plugged to the firewall device or the router? Will Start 9 be able to work at all if there is a firewall device?
I have a similar problem. My Start9 server was working perfectly okay with a pfsense firewall. But then the firewall PC broke down, and I had to install a new PC with pfsense, which all works well.
However, I can no longer access the Start9 PC from the LAN. The previous IP address is not working, nor the —.—.local address.
Within the pfsense GUI I can see the list of devices and their IP address, but not for Start9 server any more.
I have tried pulling out the ethernet cable and putting it back in. I have tried rebooting several times.
If it used to work with a firewall, why does it not now even get an IP address from the firewall, which gives out IP addresses via DHCP?
In addition, if I use the adj-noun.local address, my browser connects to my NAS instead!
How far did you get in researching pfsense and asking help from the pfsense community? StartOS doesn’t know that you’re running pfsense, nor does it have any configuration options that have any affect on external elements that block or allow passage of network traffic.
Typically, one of the problems is blocking of mDNS… so within pfsense you typically have to unblock UDP on port 5353. I’d start there.
All I’m saying is you’re replying to a guy who said he “cannot connect locally”. Why would he know how to help you with your firewall? Maybe ask the forum instead by posting your own question in the forum.
As for your new question “technically execute the firewall connection with Start9”… there’s no such thing in StartOS or at all. Firewalls don’t make connections, they block connections, and your StartOS server has no role to play there. It’s purely a configuration you make in your firewall.
