Can't access Jellyfin .local address from official android app

Hello,

I cannot access my Jellyfin .local address (https) from the official Jellyfin android app. I get the error that it has tried 3 (sometimes 5) times, with it automatically adding the 8096 and 8920 ports after the first .local address fails.

I am able to access the .local address using some of the third party Jellyfin android clients, like Fintunes and Findroid (though video doesn’t come through on Findroid; I can hear the associated audio though)!

I imagine that this is a lack of capability in the Jellyfin client, but figured I’d post here to see if anyone had figured something out.

Thanks!

Hello there,

There could be a couple of things preventing the connection. Have you trusted your root CA? Is your VPN on? It should work on Android phones with version 13 or higher, which support mDNS alias resolution. Here is our guide to help.

Thank you for the reply,

I did trust my root CA, and I dont have a VPN on. I’m running Android 15 (via CalyxOS).

I also posted on the Jellyfin Android github but didnt get any help there.

I agree with the Jellyfin developer’s reply. It’s most likely a network configuration issue on your phone. I recommend visiting Contact | Jellyfin as suggested, since their team will be the first to know about potential solutions or any recent changes.
