This is just silly, but you’re under no obligation to use StartOS, or recommend it, if it does not suit you and you don’t think anyone would benefit from it.
I confirm, seeing the same thing. I was able to connect to my original http://randomstring.onion, just fine until I deleted it, and made a new one. I cannot connect to the new one with ssl turned off. If I create another .onion address with SSL turned on, it connects, of course after tor browser warns about the untrusted certificate.
I’m pretty sure this is a bug, but testing further.
The fix has been merged into master for the next release.
@lip Thanks for finding this bug! @bonez in the meantime, you guys can create a new .onion interface with SSL enabled. Tor browser will complain about the certificate, but you can bypass that, because you are literally trusting yourself. No third party confirmation needed.
I note of caution though. If you require near 100% uptime access, Tor is NOT the way to go. Tor is an anonymizing mesh network of nodes run by volunteers. You guys would be far better served to utilize one of the other remote access options available.
Hey REX & STU thanks a lot for the help the SSL trick works for me! I mostly use remote to check up if everything is running and a reboot of necessary. I haven’t had too much time to learn the other options. I really appreciate it!
