Or is start9 os not letting that call route through this easily?
If not, what more steps do I need to take so that my node is available over clearnet? Also, how can I test that this worked?

Clearnet access for services on StartOS is a feature that will be available soon with the upcoming update to StartOS 036.
And will I open port 9735 and route it to my start9 host from the router? Or what is required from my side? Also configuring the start9 firewall or something?
We’re currently working on the documentation for StartOS 0.3.6. Once it’s ready, it will include all the instructions you need to set it up. There will be a couple of ways to connect over clearnet, and yes, you’ll need to port forward on your router for the service you want to expose. I recommend staying patient—it’s coming soon!
Do you estimate it will be released in less than a month?
I won’t quote you on it, I know this things can suddenly take a lot longer. But still, a bit curious. c:
Otherwise, I’d think about following this guide for the meantime: Core Lightning with Tor AND IPv4 clearnet
Estimations become lies quite quickly, so we don’t do it even when people pinky swear that they won’t be angry.
But the OS itself is currently entering public beta, but it’ll take some time to convert all the services.
