Connecting my ledger via Sparrow on start9

Hello I have connected and opened my ledger to my start9 server, then it shows up on sparrow as ‘error’ : “could not open client or get fingerprint information. Device has not been opened. Are udev rules installed?” I installed an SSH key to access command line on the start9 server via my mac and tried but failed to install new udev rules…permission denied…

I would be most grateful for guidance. I really want to start using my Ledger with my own Bitcoin node on start9….

A Start9 Server is not a personal computer. You can’t plug peripherals into it. It won’t detect or know what to do with a Ledger plugged directly into it.

What you’d do is install Sparrow on your personal computer, point Sparrow to Bitcoin Core or Electrs on your server (as per the integration guides) so that it’s connected to the network, then connect your Ledger to your personal computer.

The version of Sparrow on your server (I assume that’s what you installed) is only really able to be used as a hotwallet. It doesn’t have access to the underlying StartOS or the hardware. Services on StartOS run in containers so that they are secure and easy for the using to install, uninstall and update.
