Hello, I am trying to use OpenClaw on 0.4.0-beta.6 with the self-hosted model that I currently use with Open WebUI.
But when starting to configure OpenClaw, only OpenAI and Anthropic connections can be set.
I am not super technical, so I am not sure if there is another way to do that. I tried to get advice from different tutorials or LLMs, but it’s either dead-ends of saying that it is not possible.
Am I missing something? Or is it truly not possible?
Could anyone help?
You’re not missing something. You are correct in seeing that there are two options to choose from. In the future there ought to be more. That said, you’d struggle to run a local LLM capable of powering OpenClaw adequately.
Right, I’d just wish to use a small and local model for planning simple tasks and managing different agents themselves connected to OpenAI and Anthropic.
Do you know when using local models will be made available?
OpenClaw is a community package – I’m sure PRs would be welcome from any dev who’d like to contribute, but I have no knowledge of when things are planned.
I am using the OpenClaw+MapleAI packages which does require manual editing of the openclaw.json config file. I am also building additional helper packages for OpenClaw. I think I can help with the base package config options, but I haven’t tried anything yet. I will update if I am able to contribute!
We’ll have to see how this technology evolves. However, in the meanwhile a $20/mo subscription is not a bad way to get started (in addition to FreeGPT).
