Copy/Paste within StartOS

Hi
I’m struggling with basic c/p stuff. I am running StartOS as a VM on proxmox.
Obviously I can’t copy into the guest VM so I’m using syncthing to move data (like Bitcoin addresses) into StartOS.

But once it has arrived, I can’t even copy a string from the File Explorer service to the Bisq service…?

Is there a way to enable this? How does anyone send a tx if you cant c/p??

Thanks for any help.

I’m not clear on what you are trying to do. I suspect there are some conceptual misunderstanding here, that I can help with. Think of the VM as a physical server. Servers are meant to run headless, meaning without mouse, monitor, or keyboard. You just need the server to be turned on, and on the same subnet. That’s it. No further interaction with the server physically from there. You then access the server using a browser on one of the client machines, that is on the same subnet.

So in your case, start the VM, and then minimize it. Open a browser on the host, or another machine on the same lan, and administer it from there. You’ll need to know your server’s unique adjective-noun.local address, or it’s IP address to get started.

Fair enough.
Just hoping to avoid sending packets to Ireland → Netherlands → Germany → the machine right next to me.
None of the .local links are working for me.

Anxious for 0.4 update

What about the IP address? If not, then your VM setup has the VM on the wrong subnet, and/or behind NAT.

Cheers, I appreciate that. That’s the way to go apparently.

Of course, Sparrow doesn’t work through Tor Browser or Librewolf. Its just blank after entering my credentials.
But since you suggested it, I checked Files and Bisq and they work fine…

I just want to send some BTC lol

The use-case for running Sparrow on the server is pretty rare. You’ll have limited functionality that way. Usually, you’d run Sparrow on a client machine, and connect it to Bitcoin RPC or electrs.

Well apparently it doesn’t work at all unless youre logged into the server.
and then theres no way to get a BTC address in or out except QR code.

Again, servers are meant to run headless, so once things are setup, you don’t need to log in to the server for anything to work. It just needs to be on.

Here’s the guide for setting up Sparrow to connect to BitcoinRPC.

Thanks, thats not the issue. I just didn’t want my keys on my daily driver.
Of course, they shouldn’t be on the server either. I’ll spin up another VM for Sparrow.

Also, it DID work after I restarted the Sparrow service. BTC sent. Thanks for all your assistance! Sorry I got cranky lol

If you’re running Sparrow on a client device, you can keep your keys on a hardware signer, such as a Coldcard.

But yes, you can setup a VM with a desktop OS, that has a clipboard, for this one specific use.
