Corrupted Blockchain?

Hi everyone!

I got this msg a couple of times while on my IBD. I’ve used delete transaction index twice and the download continues.

2026-03-15T10:22:56-10:00 Error updating blockchain info: error: timeout on transient error: Could not connect to the server 127.0.0.1:8332 (error code 1 - “EOF reached”) 2026-03-15T10:22:56-10:00 2026-03-15T10:22:56-10:00 Make sure the bitcoind server is running and that you are connecting to the correct RPC port. 2026-03-15T10:22:56-10:00 Use “bitcoin-cli -help” for more info. 2026-03-15T10:22:56-10:00 2026-03-15T10:22:56-10:00 PROCESS TERMINATED BY SIGABRT 2026-03-15T10:23:11-10:00 Error updating blockchain info: error: timeout on transient error: Could not connect to the server 127.0.0.1:8332 2026-03-15T10:23:11-10:00 2026-03-15T10:23:11-10:00 Make sure the bitcoind server is running and that you are connecting to the correct RPC port. 2026-03-15T10:23:11-10:00 Use “bitcoin-cli -help” for more info. 2026-03-15T10:23:11-10:00 2026-03-15T10:23:11-10:00 Error updating network info: error: timeout on transient error: Could not connect to the server 127.0.0.1:8332 2026-03-15T10:23:11-10:00 2026-03-15T10:23:11-10:00 Make sure the bitcoind server is running and that you are connecting to the correct RPC port.

How serious is this? AI is telling me to start fresh. Its been a week of trying and swapping out ssds. I have a pretty new MX500 2tb and 16gb of ram on a optiplex micro 3050.

Should I carry on with the download? Thanks in advance!

Dell long diagnostics and SMART passed for hardware fyi. Thanks in advance!

I wouldn’t start fresh.

I’d look further back in the logs and see if there were any errors leading to this one. May also be worthwhile to look not only at the bitcoin logs, but also the OS and even kernel logs to see if there are errors there at the same time you are seeing errors in the bitcoin log.

In case there is a corrupted configuration I’d also suggest going into the configuration, changing something, changing it back, confirming everything is set the way you want (or to defaults), then saving it again.

Finally, it is safe (no lost data) to stop / restart the bitcoin service as well as to rebuild the service.

If none of this resolves your issue, post back w/the version of StartOS, Bitcoin, and logs going further back prior to the error.

Hi Jesse!

Thanks for the response. A small update - I continued the download and have had a few of these messages pop up. Either the server shrugs them off or a system restart clears them. Download is chugging along. Am I ok to continue the IBD in this manner?

Thanks again!!

From the StartOS web-UI, try Services > Bitcoin > Actions > Reindex Chainstate

If that doesn’t clear it up within ~12 hours, progress to:
Services > Bitcoin > Actions > Reindex Blockchain

Thanks George!

I’m on the reindex blockchain now. It’s sooo odd that I cant even get core/ knots to even download the Blockchain now. At first all was going fine for a month. Then my server crashed and I haven’t been able to get it running. I have no idea how to fix this.

The Reindex should fix it.
