Diagnostic network error could not detect ethernet interface

I am receiving this message now. It is on the diagnostic screen. The ethernet is plugged in and the light are indicating that they are working on the router and pc.

Can you provide some context please? I see form another post, that you are installing StartOS on a machine that may not fully compatible. Is that the machine you are having trouble with? Are you receiving this message during the installation process?

ok so I bought a GMKtec with Ryzen 5 3500U 16GB, and I upgraded to 2 Tb SSD, I Originally flashed with startos-0.3.5.1-39de098_x86_64.iso and then tried startos-0.3.5.1-39de098_x86_64-nonfree.iso which brought me to the StartOS diagnostic Mode page with the launch error “Network error, could not detect ethernet interface.”

It could be that the start-os image is missing the correct realtek drivers for your specific chipset.

It looks like the GMKtec with Ryzen 5 3500U 16GB uses Realtek 8125BG.

I’ve helped someone last year creating a custom .iso containing the ‘r8168’ realtek drivers.

You might have some luck by creating a custom .iso including the ‘r8125’ drivers.

If you have a linux machine, you can use this script (start-os-realtek-8168/startos.sh at main · remcoros/start-os-realtek-8168 · GitHub) to create a custom .iso of StartOS 0.3.5.1

In this script, replace ‘r8168’ with ‘r8125’ and run it. It will install the required tools to built a custom .iso, download the original start-os .iso and patch it to add the realtek kernel driver.

Note: this is not supported by Start9 and it may not even work in your specific case (but if you’re up for it, it wouldn’t hurt to try).
