Disk Management Error enabling repair mode

I have been trying to retore my StartOS on a refurbished HP Elitedesk purchesed from Start9 for a few weeks now.

Today I was able to flash the OS from a thumb drive.

Screen is stuck on “Initializing StartOS” and an error popped up that I can’t get rid of (the Y/N) keys don’t work as listed in the error:

Error: RPC ERROR: Disk Manatgement Error enabling repair mode Opening filesystem to check …
Checking filesystem on /dev/mapper/EMBASSY_********_PACKAGE-DATA uuid: ****** repair mode will force to clear out log tree, are you sure? [y/N]

HELP!

You might try reflashing again since you are just starting. And you might want to format the drive just to make sure its good and clean. If it is stalled on the [y/N] you might just have to power it down

I’m trying to restore from a crash. If I reformat the drive all my old settings are toast.

I see. Do you have a backup or you just reflashed and are trying to restore from existing drive?

Trying to restore from existing drive.

I can’t find my backup (unfortunately). Is there a way to access the terminal before the browser opens? Is there a way to get the settings off the hard drive if I put it in another Linux machine?

what happens if you try to login to start.local on your network does diagnostic mode show or it is not even getting that far?

Not getting that far. I had to attach a monitor and keyboard because running headless was not working at all.

If the data on the drive is not corrupted. You could install StartOS on another drive then try a transfer.

I’ll give that a try.

I wish I could access the terminal to be about to run Linux system checks and disk utilities.

You could pull the disk and with an attachment mount the disk from a linux to run utilities on it to check the disk out. That is a lot of work, but if you are going to try and transfer you may have to pull the disk out any way

I ran disk utilities and the hard drive is good. No issues. No matter what I do to try to restore my OS I continue to get the same failure.

How can I get the Start9 settings off the old hard drive to do a new install?

Looks like you’re a Start9 customer, so you should have received what was labeled as a redemption code at the time so you can signup and connect to start9.me - it is usually a sticker placed on the underside of your server.

This private support server would be a better place to discuss how to “hack” into your StartOS drive.

That said, from everything you say, your drive does sound like it would be unrecoverable by anyone other than a recovery specialist.
