Is there a NAS that is recommended? I’m interested in something for backups and that also is fault tolerant.

Any NAS that allows for the sharing of a standard SAMBA share will work as a valid backup target. No particular NAS is recommended, but we do have a Synology guide in our docs.
The reason this guide exists is not because Synology is “better”, it’s just that like with any OS where you set up a SAMBA share, you’d have to create a directory, share it, create a user, give the user permissions over that share etc… this is true of Synology’s OS, of Windows, Linux etc. So our Synology guide is a good example of what you’d have to do with whatever OS your NAS comes with.
