Enabling Neutrino Mode in Bitcoin Core

Hi, I’m trying to connect my Zeus wallet to Bitcoin Core running on StartOS, but before I even connect to my node it seems I need to make some modifications. I asked in their discord, and they sent me this tutorial Enable ‘Neutrino mode’ in Bitcoin Core | Builder's Guide

Is there a tutorial on how to edit the bitcoin.conf file, or an easier way to activate neutrino mode within StartOS?

Hey, looks like Zeus walks to connect to lightning rather than Bitcoin Core. So you’d need to set up LND or c-lightning first which Start9 offers in our marketplace.
Any questions you have around setting up Lightning should be addressed here: Start9 | Service Guides under the Lightning section.

Once that’s sorted, StartOS provides many configuration settings through our interface for all of the apps in our supported marketplace. In general, we don’t encourage users to edit .conf files directly unless absolutely necessary, and at that point we can’t guarantee your results.

This seemed useful for Zeus: StartOS | ZEUS Documentation

I will try that first, for sure, but after talking to the guys at Zeus, they seemed clear that I needed to edit this file to get the on chain portion to connect. If I did want to edit the .conf file, how would I do that? I realize it may cause some issues, but it’s something I may experiment with, even if it means completely re-flashing the OS and resyncing the chain to fix my mistakes.

For what it’s worth, I use Zeus with Alby Hub, and LND. It works seamlessly. Super easy to setup. A lot of hand holding by Alby there. I will say however, I use Zeus only as a lightning wallet. I have not setup an on-chain wallet, in Zeus. So I don’t know what is involved in that.

Hacking around in config files in StartOS is not discouraged, but it’s also not supported. StartOS is opinionated, and robust. It’s meant to be used through the gui interface. But if you’d like to get under the hood we have documentation on ssh, and accessing service containers here:
