External SSD Won't Mount

NOOB searching for some guidance. I’ve done some searching but haven’t found an exact match for my issue.

I am trying to create a Server One Backup using an 4TB external SSD. It is a brand-new NVME M2 SSD (with an adapter) which I formatted to EXT4 using MiniTools on a Windows PC. The formatting appeared to work fine and I ensured that I used Eject prior to removing the adapter/SSD from the PC.

When I connect the adapter/SSD to the Server One and start the backup process, the system sees the SSD and allows me to select which services to backup. However, when I start, I get the following error message:
RPC ERROR: Filesystem I/O Error mount: /media/embassy/tmp/ER2DI5LOKNR52KBAMAPCN7W5AH632A24ZYRLTEPHQZGFWHPQ7BVQ: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sda1, missing codepage or helper program, or other error. dmesg(1) may have more information after failed mount system call.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Found some somewhat related info online but not being very coding savvy Idon’t want to make matters worse.

Thanks.

I would not trust doing this on Windows at all. It’s like going to Beijing to study Spanish.

I’d just use your Windows PC to quickly boot a random linux distro (Ubuntu will run on anything) and without installing linux (though you probably should), use the standard tool in that to format the drive. Once done, drop a file onto the partition to confirm it works, then you’re done.

Thanks for the reply. Certainly learning a lot about Linux with the Server One.

Took a bit searching the net but worked through the kinks but got the SSD formatted and up and running.

Again, thanks. Appreciate the help. Besides doesn’t one go to Bejing to learn Italian??

Have a good one.
