Feature request for blocksonly + maxconnections UI toggles (Bitcoin Knots on wireless + Tor)

Hi everyone,

Jabu here, new guy, also on Github, hoping to collab on this with you guys!

I added my real-world use case to the open blocksonly request in the Bitcoin Core wrapper and created a matching one for the Knots wrapper:

My setup: NUC on a wireless bridge (Tenda → TP-Link Archer C6) + Tor hidden service only in Johannesburg. No router QoS possible.
Problem: Repeated SIGSEGV + LevelDB corruption during IBD bursts on high peer/mempool load.
Request: Simple GUI toggles for blocksonly=1 and lower maxconnections (8–16) to make Tor/wireless setups stable.

If you’re also running on constrained networks (Tor, wireless, rural areas), feel free to chime in or add your +1 on GitHub. Would love to see this land in the next update!

Thanks Start9 team — loving the platform otherwise.

Update – Full Technical Report Added

When you live remote and connect over terrible satellite or overland data connection infrastructure, you become your own hardware tech support animal eventually, I look forward to criticisms and comments on my work to provide clarity on the hardcore physcial challenges we are faced with as Noderunners in Africa, and hopefully my background & experience with Project Management translates well enough to be meaningfully helpful here with this report drafting and happy to share logs to further the conversation where necessary!

For complete details including sync phase statistics, timeline, and the latest run (reached 912k headers / 96.69% before transitioning to Synchronizing blockheaders, followed by a transient RPC timeout), I’ve posted the Status Quo Report as a comment on GitHub #185:

Related feature request: [feat]: [Feature Request] Add GUI toggles for blocksonly + maxconnections (linking to Core #185) · Issue #201 · Start9Labs/bitcoin-core-startos · GitHub

Any other users running on wireless bridges or Tor-only setups are welcome to add their experiences.
