Feedback / Request: Paperless-ngx package needs v3.x upgrade and Tika/Gotenberg bundling

Hi everyone,

I’m using the Paperless-ngx package on StartOS and noticed that it is currently trailing behind the upstream releases (running v2.20.15, while upstream is moving through v3.x).

Additionally, the current package configuration is missing the essential companion services for Apache Tika and Gotenberg. Without these sidecar containers bundled into the s9pk wrapper, Paperless-ngx is completely unable to parse or process Office documents (.docx, .odt) and email files (.eml). Because StartOS containers are sandboxed, users cannot manually spin up companion containers or edit a compose file to hook them up externally.

Could the package maintainers look into:

  1. Upgrading the base image to support Paperless-ngx v3.x.
  2. Bundling Apache Tika and Gotenberg as service dependencies (similar to how Redis/Postgres are bundled) and configuring the default environment variables (PAPERLESS_TIKA_ENABLED, PAPERLESS_TIKA_ENDPOINT, etc.) so they talk out-of-the-box?

Thanks!
