Grinding sound from Start9 server Pure

Hi there,
my start9 server pure started making a grinding sound (likely mechanical). I powered it down via the local server interface to prevent further damage. Anyone can advise the safest next steps to diagnose and fix this?

  1. What checks should I perform to determine whether the grinding sound is from a fan vs a drive or RAID disk spin-up?

  2. If it’s likely a failing drive or RAID issue, what is the recommended procedure to identify the failed component and minimize risk to data?

  3. Should I avoid any further power cycles until someone confirm next diagnostics?

It’s almost certainly a fan issue. There are not many mechanical parts. No spinning drive. If you’re comfortable doing so, you may open the case, to see if something has some into contact with the fan. As a Start9 customer, you are eligible for live support.
