Home server data also on my computer

hey guys,
this may be a total n00b question, if so apologies in advance.

I’ve stored over 100GB of photos and docs in my drive by uploading through the NextCloud app as well as drag and dropping files into the nextcloud folder in my Mac ‘Finder’. Is there any way for me to remove local files from my computer so that these files are only on home server?

The app for syncing does just that, syncs. In my case, I’m happy to do this, but to an external drive that I use for my “live” second backup of important photos.

If I didn’t want to do this, I’d set up a webDAV network share to my Nextcloud docs and treat it as a local folder and not use the Nextcloud syncing app.

If you open your Nextcloud Web UI, click on Files at the top, then look at the bottom left, you’ll see File Settings. You can grab your WebDAV URL from that. Then in Finder you can go to Go, then Connect to Server and paste it there.

On Windows and Linux, there is a “free up space” option which deletes the local copy, leaving a link to the file, that allows you to load on demand. I don’t have a Mac in front of me to verify if it has the same option. Check the context menu on any file or folder in anNC sync folder.
