Hot temp (80-95) on a new Server One

I recently purchased a Server One (4TB/64GB) and installed a few services. It’s been an hour or two since the services finished installation/configuration. I paused on doing more because the hardware temp seems really high.

During the install of the blockchain, it was running between 92-95 degrees. Now I’m sitting between 79-85 degrees. The services running right now are:

  • btc blockchain
  • electrs
  • mempool
  • file browser
  • nextcloud
  • myspeed
  • nostr rs relay

I’m not using a ton of RAM (3-4 GB) and am hesitant to continue working.

The server is in the basement in the electrical closet. It’s pretty cool down here.

Anyone have an idea of what’s causing this?

The initial block download is one of the most intensive processes your server will ever do.

You are not only downloading each block since the beginning of the chain but also confirming each and every one. Very intensive for the hardware.

In this situation, running hot is totally normal. But also keep in mind that as any other electronic device cooled by a fan, proper airflow is important, you mention that the server is in an “electrical closet” that might not provide adequate ventilation for the server to efficiently cool itself as much as possible.
