I’ve been having some issues with knots syncing the bloack chian. Also some issues with it with some other services so I want to just start from scratch with core then upgrade to knots once i get everything working properly. I did an uninstall of knots, datum and simple x server. I went to install bitcore and its showing the knots icon. Is that normal and did i do the uninstall properly? Should i do normal install of core or reinstall via dev tools? Liking the software so far. This coming from an old windows sys admin Cant wait to run a node and point to it not to mention everything else. I got through the initial setup of embassy running i think and can hit the server via tor/onion addy, .local and via ip. I couldn’t ssh via putty but works via powershell via ip and .local? Rampling, tia.
Is there a way to point core install to the already dloading chain?
If you intend to run Knots, it’s cleaner to just install knots do begin with.
The icon not changing is just a browser cache issue. You’ll see the correct icon, the next time you load the page without cache.
As of 0.3.5, knots and core are seen by the system as the same service. Switching from one to the other uses the same blockchain data. You can run one or the other, but not both.
If you have reason to believe you’ve damaged the system via SSH, you can re-flash the server, and start new.
If you’ve never used SSH, this is unlikely to be necessary. We might just focus on solving whatever specific issue you are having with the services.
It was working fine with datum. I installed the proxy and was good. Tried installing electrum and knots stopped syncing? That’s what got me starting with core just to get everything working. Is there a way to ssh in a delete the knots instance of the chain? Drive is growing with the core redownloading another?
Since Core and Knots are seen by the system as the same service, you can switch from one to the other, and use the same blockchain data that was already downloaded by the other. This happens by default. There is no knots instance, or core instance of the chain. It’s just Bitcoin’s blockchain. If you want to delete it, and start over, simply uninstall the service. Then you can just install whichever one you want fresh, and re-do the IBD. Under normal circumstance, this is unnecessary. If you’re going to use Datum, it requires Knots.
