Made a mistake and did not download certificate. How to get a copy off the server

Hi,
Firstly thanks very much for Start9 OS.
I installed it on a Dell Latitude 5590 laptop, i.e this is now my start9 server.
However, I made a silly mistake and did the intial setup on the laptop instead of a client device.
I somehow managed to install the certificate on my ipad, so can access start9 on that.
How can I get the certificate file so I can use a linux PC as a client please?
I cannot figure out how to get the certificate off the start9 server.
Thanks

Hey Amber,

You can find your server’s Root CA inside the StartOS dashboard.

Navigate to System > Root CA and click Download Certificate

Thanks Gloriana,
I’ve done that so now its in downloads folder in the browser on the server.
How do I get it from there to another device? I’m now thinking I could open a new browser window, login to a cloud file storage service and upload it there. Or is there a better way?

You’ll need to follow the guides, which are found here:
https://docs.start9.com/0.3.5.x/user-manual/trust-ca

You’ll see there are a number of different ways to get the cert file after having already set up the server by accident in what we call “kiosk mode”.

The first one is relevant to you. Just type in your .local and it’ll show the screen with the root CA options.

Thanks StuPleb.
I was unable to access the localhost url on my client pc due to error “We can’t connect to the server at…”.
I assumed this was due to not having the certifcate already installed. Am I right about that?

Anyway, I gave up trying to access via local host, and instead use TOR browsers on the client and access the start9 node via it’s onion url.

I’m really enjoying using Start9 OS. It makes installing a BTC node and electrum server very easy. The documentation is well written too. Thanks !

You definitely don’t open “https://localhost” on your client PC. That would take you nowhere.

You access your unique .local, found under System → About, next to your .onion.
When you do it, it will take you to the screen you skipped the first time around, and ask you to download the CA.

You’ll like using .locals, it’s much faster.
