Initial install on HP ProBook succeeded. Connected to .local in FireFox on Windows client. I can see system info and monitor, but Marketplace is not populating. I have cleared FireFox cache, made sure client VPN isn’t complaining about local connections, turned off client VPN, slept a full 8 hours, but still nothing. What now?
Hi!
It sounds like you’ve done quite a bit of troubleshooting already—nice work so far. If your Marketplace page still isn’t populating after clearing your Firefox cache, disabling your VPN, and even giving it plenty of time, here are a few more things to check:
Hard Refresh the Page:
Sometimes a standard reload isn’t enough. With Firefox, try pressing Ctrl + Shift + R to force a hard refresh. This can clear out any cached issues that might be preventing the page from loading correctly.
Check mDNS/Bonjour on Windows:
Windows can sometimes struggle with local .local addresses due to mDNS (multicast DNS) resolution issues. The Bonjour service (sometimes called ‘Apple Bonjour’) is required for reliable local name resolution. If it’s not installed or has become corrupted, you may see connectivity issues with certain features, like the Marketplace.
We recommend reinstalling Bonjour on your Windows machine. You can follow the step-by-step instructions in our guide.
Try a Different Browser or Device:
Occasionally, browser extensions or settings can interfere with page loading. If possible, try accessing the Marketplace from another browser (e.g., Chrome, Edge) or a different device on your network to see if the problem persists.
Verify Network Isolation/Firewall Settings:
Make sure that your firewall or any network security software on your Windows machine isn’t blocking local network discovery or HTTP(S) connections to the StartOS device.
If you’ve tried all of the above and the Marketplace is still not showing up, please let us know.
We’re here to help you get this sorted!
Thanks for the suggestions. They definitely kept me out of trouble for a while and some combination of them did the trick!
My next mission is to initialize my new external 2 TB SSD and install Bitcoin Knots. As I’m not used to managing a server, I’m at a loss for how to get started. Plug SSD into StartOS server? Initialize on client machine first? What format? I’ve been searching, but any link to info will be appreciated.
Great to hear those suggestions helped!
Regarding your external SSD: On StartOS, you can’t expand your server’s storage just by plugging in a new USB disk. The system only supports using external drives for backup purposes—plugging one in won’t let you use it for installing apps or expanding main server storage.
If you want to use your new SSD as the main storage for your server, you’ll need to swap your current internal disk for the new SSD. After installing the SSD, you should follow the “Recover > Transfer” guide in StartOS to migrate your server data.
Okay, thanks. Is there a way to format the external SSD to ext4 from my current StartOS install, either through the GUI or CLI?
