at first, thanks al lot for this precious piece of software.
There is one topic which makes me unhappy: the lack of automatic backup feature of Start9.
We all know about the importance of a solid backup which is not depended on user interaction. If the user needs for a regular backup to interact with the software, this will fail to the long run. Moreover, if somebody wanna run Start9 as a “serious” Lightning routing node, an automatic instant LND/CLN backup after EVERY single transaction is essential.
Start9 has adopted some exciting projects in the last years, but of all things the backup aspect is less developed which is fatal.
For now, because of this I will wait to change from Raspiblitz.
You don’t need to sell us on the idea – it’s a perfectly fine idea that we expect to incorporate eventually.
Relying on automatic backups can be pretty dangerous though. You could be assuming they’re working when they’ve been failing for weeks. Notifications of successful and failed backups would only be seen when logging into the server, and if you’re going to do that to find out, you might as well trigger a manual backup.
But yes, there’s a significant list of feature requests. Many we have plans for.
@Congster - @StuPleb is 100% correct that assuming automatic backups are working w/out checking is dangerous.
With that caveat, I did put together a guide for those willing to SSH into their StartOS servers to use cron to automate backups. If this is the only thing keeping you from migrating from Raspiblitz - take a look and see if it works for you…
