Now that Bitcoin BIP110 is dead, what is doing Start9 with 2 Knots services in Start9 Registry?

Hello.

I do not understand what Start9 is doing right now with 3 “Bitcoin” services on Start9 Registry:

1./Bitcoin Core V31 is supported and moving forward

2./Bitcoin Knots RDTS V24 is dead since the blockchain is frozen and it will never reach the difficulty adjustment in less that a year.

3./Bitcoin Knots V24 is dead because Luke will never update it again since he is forking off to a new chain.

I do not understand how a new Start9 customer is going to comprehend all of this and make an informed choice about what to install in their node.

I thing Start9 is making a mistake here and they should move both Knots services to Community Registry for example.

Just my opinion….

Hi @cosamosa, thanks for sharing your feedback, and I get why the situation looks confusing from the outside. Here’s the actual state of things:

  • Bitcoin Core: follows the majority chain, no RDTS involvement. Supported and moving forward normally.
  • Bitcoin Knots (RDTS): this is the flavor that enforces BIP-110/RDTS. Per the docs, BIP-110 did not carry the network: it split at block 961,632 in August 2026, and this flavor follows the resulting chain, which produces a block roughly once every day or two and shares no replay protection with the original. StartOS surfaces a critical task on install forcing users to explicitly opt in, and explicitly points them elsewhere if that’s not what they want: to follow the chain the rest of the network follows, install Bitcoin Core or the Bitcoin Knots (pre-RDTS) flavor instead.
  • Bitcoin Knots (pre-RDTS): ships the last pre-RDTS Knots release (29.3.knots20260507) with no such gate, so it stays on the non-RDTS, majority chain like Bitcoin Core.

So to be precise about your list: it’s not that all three are presented as equal live options - Knots (RDTS) is gated behind an explicit, opt-in critical task specifically because it’s the minority/dead-end chain, while Bitcoin Core and Knots (pre-RDTS) are the two “normal” choices for someone who just wants to follow the network everyone else is on.

Hope this helps clarify and please let us know if you have any additional questions.

Jeremy in my opinion for what it is worth(nothing) i appreciate you giving the community all the available options that exist. Bitcoin is a very dynamic protocall and Start9 serves it community well by making sure you give us all the options. Thank you for supporting my ability to choose what software i wish to support and run on My node

With Knots pre-RDTS, you also have the choice to follow the longest chain whilst continuing to not participate in processing & relaying in-flight transactions you’d rather not see in the mempool.

this is really helpful, we are using Bitcoin Knots (RDTS), we are stuck on 961,638 block. We made transaction prior knowing about what’s happening with knots. The transaction we had just keep on confirming still not appear on our wallet for about a week now. If we switch to pre-rdts what will happen to our transaction? One of them are consolidation which has 1 confirmation, while the other transaction has 300+ confirmation as of writing. If we will switch to pre-rdts are those transactions will appear on our wallet after fully sync of blocks?

Thank you in advance.

There is a lot of if/then nuance here, and getting it wrong can cause loss of funds. I don’t have a direct answer to your question, as I don’t have a clear picture on your specific setup. But this may be helpful to better understand the circumstance.
