Hello everyone. Just got my new Start9 Server for the main purpose of running a Knots full node. Got the blockchain syched just fine, and the Knots service is showing 4 connections in and a constant 10 out, but external blockchain utilities such as bitnodes.io are not showing an active node for my public IP address. I had expected to need to have a static internal IP address set for my Start9 server, and need to open port 8333 on my cable modem and forward it to the static local IP for my Start9 server. Is that necessary, and if not, why is bitnodes.io showing my node as unreachable? Thanks!
Hey @PatrickWeisser welcome to the family! We’ve answered a similar question here
Basically, drop your http:
in bitnodes.io for your onion URL to see it, and for now, there is no way to access your node from your home’s IP address.
Thanks for your response @DataMayCare. I was able to get my Tor QuickConnect address from the Knots interface, but no external service including bitnodes.io will verify it is available when I past it (and yes I’m including the :port number). I really don’t know anything about the Tor network, I just bought my Start9 server to help the Bitcoin network. It also seems strange I now have 4 continuous inbound connections according to the Knots interface, and that number never changes. My Start9 server has 32gigs of core and a 4tb SSD so it should be able to handle more than that. Is there a community forum you know of for Bitcoin Knots node runners I should join to get up to speed on all this? Thanks!
