Just starting this journey (small business owner and bitcoiner) and moved everything off my one drive and google drives onto my server (pure, 4tb). Wondering what people’s recommendation for a backup physical drive is, I have a little over 2TB of data on the server so want to get 4TB or more. What product are you using?
We can’t really recommend specific brands, but maybe other community members can chime in with their particular choices for backup drives.
The main detail to keep in mind is to use a drive from a reputable brand and slightly higher capacity than what you are planning to backup. This will future proof your setup.
Make sure to review our documentation on the specifics of performing and restoring backups.

Okay so I bought a Seagate 5TB external hard drive and when I plugged it in the server lost power. I was kind of freaking out because after I turned the server back on I could not get it to connect to my network. Only after I left it unplugged for awhile and replug did it connect.
This was kind of my fear from the beginning so I would really appreciate if anybody can give me a brand or specific product that they already know works. Preferably one that can be bought from Amazon. I dont think this would be an issue disclosing, I just dont want to risk frying the thing somehow by using the wrong product since it has already lost power from the one i just bought.
Please and thanks
I’m in the same situation.
Not sure which external hard drive to pick for my Server One with 4TB disks.
Many thanks!
I returned the Seagate and and bought the WD black 5tb external hard drive yesterday and had the same thing happene. Emailed support.
I connected a Seagate 4TB drive to my Start9 Pure and it powered up just fine.
thank you, good to know! not sure if the fact that i tried a 5TB seagate is the difference or not, i will wait and see if anyone else has confirmation of a bigger than 4TB external hard drive working on their pure before trying that
