Recovery of Start OS server on Dell hardware

Hello everyone. I am in the process of setting up my Start OS server running on a Dell Optiplex 7050 mini. And its working quite well. I have an Electrum server also. And I have it integrated with my Sparrow wallet running on my work Laptop. It has been running smoothly for a few weeks with no problems. However I want to always be able to use it when I am traveling. And I travel a lot. And my server is sitting at home running full time. I tried testing it with just pulling the power cable and watching it recover. And it did recover fine without any hiccups. Took it only about 10 minutes to reconnect.

My question is. Are there any other things I need to do to ensure it will be available when I am traveling? Any recovery strategies I should implement? Or anything to watch out for?

As with any device that is important to you, you will want to have backups in case something goes wrong.

This guide will take you step by step on that path. Make sure to follow the directions specific to your own device´s OS.

Also, since you mention you are frequently away from your server, it might be a good idea to look into purchasing an uninterruptible power supply that will keep the server running in case of a short term power outage. (Keeping your router also plugged into that UPS is also wise).

Thanks. I will start working on these.

Remember the value proposition here. BTC’s value is in the network.

So while your primary objective is the convenience and privacy of using your own infrastructure to better your wealth, you are also contributing to making the network more valuable for all by running a node.

With that in mind, consider investing in a UPS to run your Node > Standby UPS for Small Applications | Server Room Environments?

(Assuming you also run your internet gear through the UPS, you can ensure that the node is available even during AC interruptions (up to a point).

When I setup my node (also Dell MFF PC), I plugged it into my existing UPS setup as a priority. Not only does it give you some piece of mind, but also strengthens the network as a whole by ensuring high-availability.

If you calculate the consumption in watts form your Modem/Router and Dell MFF, you can calculate how big a battery UPS you need to get to have it capable of running on battery for up to 12 or 24 hours.

Without the network and all of its contributors, BTC is worthless. Remember that.

GL, shout if you need help.
