Repurposing a PC in the box (Holoport)

I have this thing called Holoport from Holochain project and I decided to repurpose this holoport to Start9 server to be finally used for something useful.

The specs of it are the following…

• Currently running nixOS for Holochain

• 3.5 GHz Intel Dual-Core Pentium Processor

• 1TB HDD (I’m planning to upgrade this to 2TB+ SSD)

• 8GB DDR4

• USB 3.0 x 2

• USB 2.0 x 2

• HDMI x 1

• Gigabit Ethernet Port

• Maximum Continuous Power: Estimated - 65W

Will this box be able to run Start9?

The short answer is “probably.” And I encourage you to give it a try. StartOS is a 1GB download. If you are familiar with installing Linux, the install process will probably take you about as long as it took to write the question. Or at least, less time than it took you to get an answer.

Here’s our user reported master good hardware list:

Here’s the link to the instructions:
https://docs.start9.com/0.3.5.x/diy/diy-x86

Keep in mind that a HDD is too slow to run a Bitcoin stack. But the upgrade process to transfer to a SSD later is easy.

Thanks, I will give it a try 100% in the upcoming week. I’ll keep you posted (and updated the thread you posted) how it goes.

Cheers :call_me_hand:t2:

IT’S ALIVE!

I Replaced HDD with 2TB SSD and Start9 OS works like a charm on what used to be a Holoport. Now I can call it Start9Port :hugs:

I Will publish detailed tutorial in the near future of the whole process A to Z but first I need to finish that snake game!

I fcked up the BIOS settings since It was a loong time I deal with BIOS and learn some stuff about that also… It was nice to geek out a bit :brain:
