When I connected my Start9 Server Pure to my new router after 3 months, the Start9 doesn’t connect through it’s previously assigned LAN local address, it only connects using the local IP Address assigned by the router. How do I reassign the Start9 local address?
The .local resolution occurs from the multicast DNS (mDNS) system. This works by allowing devices on a local network to resolve hostnames to IP addresses without needing a dedicated DNS server. It uses multicast packets to send queries to all devices on the network, which then respond with their IP addresses, enabling easy discovery and communication among devices. This is all automatic. There is nothing to reassign. When mDNS is not working properly, the prime suspect is that the router is interfering with these multicast packets. I would start by power cycling all network equipment, and all of your devices including the server,(System>restart) to see if a reset gets them to communicate. If not, you’ll need to check firewall settings in your new router to see where this communication is being blocked.
