Hi all, I am completely new to start9, and I need some help to get all things right. Ride the Lightning doesn’t want to open the UI. What could be wrong? Thanks in advance.
Hi! What version of StartOS, and RTL? Are the health checks green?
Hi sorry was away. All version is last updated and all green . Thanks
hey, thanks! “all green” is good to know but I need a bit more to go on:
- exact StartOS version (format like 0.4.0.x) and exact RTL version?
- what platform - Pi, Pure, One, or DIY x86?
- when you say it “cant open the UI” - what actually happens? blank white screen, a spinner that never finishes, an error message, or does it just time out?
- how are you trying to reach it - .local address, LAN IP, or a Tor .onion address? and what browser/device?
- have you tried a hard refresh (ctrl+shift+r on windows/linux, cmd+shift+r on mac) or opening from a different browser/device?
- do other services (or your main StartOS dashboard) open fine, or is this happening everywhere?
that’ll help me figure out if it’s a browser/caching thing or something specific to RTL. thanks!
Hello,
Exact StartOS version: 0.4.0.1
Platform: DIY from start9 website
What actually happens: The screen is just blank, and at the top it shows IP address with a spinner that never finishes
How I am trying to reach it: Through a local address, and I’m using Firefox as the browser. The device is an HP EliteBook 8470p with a 4TB SSD, 8GB RAM and 2.7GHz.
Have I tried a hard refresh: Yes, I tried twice and nothing helped.
Do other services open fine: All services open fine except LND (network and graph sync progress is infinitely loading and not working).
Kind regards
ah gotcha, that makes sense - LND doesn’t actually have its own web UI in StartOS, so that spinner next to the IP is most likely just the sync status shown on LND’s service page (syncing to chain / syncing to graph). RTL needs LND to be synced up before its UI will load, so a stuck LND sync would explain both things you’re seeing at once.
a few things to check:
- on your Bitcoin Core page, is it showing fully synced, or still catching up? what % / block height does it show?
- is that 4TB SSD installed inside the laptop, or is it an external/USB drive?
- roughly how long has the server been running since you first set it up?
- on LND’s page, under health checks, does it specifically say “Syncing to Chain” or “Syncing to Graph”?
if Bitcoin Core is still doing its initial sync, that alone would explain everything - LND (and RTL through it) just needs to wait for Core to catch up first, which can take a while depending on your hardware/connection. if Core is already fully synced but LND is still stuck, that points to something else and we can dig further.
Hi, I have Bitcoin knots(rdts), and fully synced, was about 8 days to full synked. 4 TB is installed in the laptop’s internal, server ran for about 12 days from the first step, and LND shows syncing to the graph and chain.
hey, thanks - that detail actually matters a lot here. can you check the exact name of the bitcoin package installed - does it say just “Bitcoin Knots”, or specifically “Bitcoin Knots (RDTS)”?
reason I ask: the RDTS build has been on its own separate minority chain since a split (different network from mainstream bitcoin at this point, blocks coming in way slower than normal). if that’s what you’ve got installed, that would explain the LND graph sync hanging forever - it’s trying to reconcile lightning network data from the main chain against a backend that’s on a different one entirely.
if it turns out you’re on the RDTS build, the fix is to switch your bitcoin backend to either Bitcoin Core or the regular (non-RDTS) Bitcoin Knots package. heads up that this will need a full resync since it’s an actual different chain, not just a different client like a normal Core<->Knots switch would be.
let me know which one you’ve got installed and we’ll go from there.
Hi, in the previous reply I specified it is Bitcoin knots (rdts). I’ve read some info in this forum; probably the reason is peers. I didn’t configure all settings, as I mention completly new to start9. AS well, LND shows me Node Reachability - Your node can peer with other nodes, but the other nodes cannot peer with you. Probably need to start with the correct config? Kind regards
Hi, looks like I can’t get any help here. Sad, but it’s reality.
Not sure why you think you can’t get help when everyone has invested hours in doing so.
Things aren’t moving towards a conclusion for you because your premise is jumping all over the place. First you say you can’t open RTL (you’d never be able to if LND doesn’t work), then that LND isn’t working (you’d never be able to if Bitcoin isn’t running), then that you’re not even running Bitcoin (you’re running BlakeCoin instead).
LND requires Bitcoin (You’ll need to install Core or preRDTS Knots). Uninstall Knots RDTS.
LND will eventually work, but you won’t have peers because of all the above. You may need to add one, perhaps grab a random one from Amboss Space.
One LND works, for adding a peer, you’ll be able to use RTL.
Hi, and thanks for your reply. I just switched to the knots preRDTS, and it is now 99.65%. I will let you know when it is ready. Many thanks
Hi, so in the end all services ran correctly after following the above advice. Thanks to all. The case can be closed.
