Running the same StartOS on new Laptop

I’m currently running my Start9 from my server one on an HP laptop but I think the laptop is starting to go and I’m thinking ahead about having to possibly get a new laptop very soon.

I need to know how I run everything I currently have on StartOS on this laptop to a brand new one if and when the time comes as if nothing changed.

I’m not sure if I’m going to get another Windows Laptop like the one I’m running StartOS on now or if I’m going to go with a MacBook or not.

I need help on what to do next to prepare for this. What will I need and how do I do it. Will I be able to restore this from my Windows computer to a Mac or will I have to get another Windows Laptop.

I’m not very good when it come to technical computer stuff but as long as I’m guided through I can figure it out.

Any videos, literature/instructions will help. I just want to prepare before my computer goes out, it’s probably not going to be worth fixing so I’ll probably end up getting a brand new one.

The server one that I have is fine and is pretty much brand new, it’s the laptop that I’m running it through that’s the problem

I understand that you are looking for a recommendation on what client device (laptop) you should use, but this is definitely a personal preference thing and would largely depend on what else you would be using this device for.

I for instance would not be using a Windows machine because I don’t enjoy the OS and am aware that Bonjour is an issue for many servers.

I’d therefore personally opt for either a machine I could run Linux on or a Macbook, but I have different uses for them that have nothing to do with my server so I’d decide based on those use cases.

Since I’d be connecting to my Server One via it’s .local or .onion addresses in a browser on my laptop & not installing StartOS on the laptop itself, this wouldn’t matter in my decision making of which laptop to get.

Ok thanks. So once I get the new computer it’s pretty much plug and play as far as either putting my .local or Onion address. I wouldn’t have to re-download anything on the new computer because my server one is already set up to use with any computer.

Yes, mostly plug and play when you are using a new laptop.

The only thing you will need to take care of is trusting the Root CA on the new device by following this guide:
