My Server Pure is just over a year old, purchased in July of 2025. The fan has been getting louder and louder, and today it has started changing its speed, running slower, then faster, then slower, then faster, in a pulsing/revving manner. I’ve tried blowing compressed air through the side vents, but it isn’t improving. I suspect the fan hardware is dying.
Is there any warranty on the hardware?
I know the machine itself is a purism librem mini v2, and I found a replacement fan on AliExpress for ~$22, but coming from China will take about 4 weeks for me. I also found one on eBay and Amazon, but they are also drop shipping from China.
I followed a video tutorial for how to open the case, remove the RAM and NVMe and remove the main board from the case, but I could not remove the board from my case. It seems like the USB ports are stuck in the case and the board can’t lift out to gain access to the underside for what should be a trivial repair.
Is there any support I can get from Start9 for my server pure fan?
Yes, you can either return your server to us so we can replace the fan, or we can send you a fan. But you’d need to contact support (start9.me / support@start9.com) with your order number since you’re currently posting this on the community forum.
BTW, the board does come out of the case, you just have to angle it and slightly bend the metal case itself (rather than the board!). This is hard to see on this Purism video. The device you have isn’t actually a Purism device (Purism don’t produce any hardware themselves) but it is essentially identical and the video is correct in all it’s directions.
Thanks Stu, I did get the board out of the case. I sent an email to support requesting a spare fan. You’re right that Purism did not manufacture the hardware - it appears to be a NVISEN MU02. I wonder if Start9’s Server Pure supports Purism’s core boot + heads out of the box?
