SimpleX client interface cannot create onion service — SSL option missing**

'm unable to add an onion connection for SimpleX clients. When trying to create the onion service for the client interface, I get the following error:

RPC ERROR: Action Failed
Error: Cannot create a non-SSL onion service for “simplex”: its interface is SSL-only. Create an SSL onion service instead.

What I observed

StartOS requires SSL for this onion service, but the SimpleX client interface does not present any SSL option — making it impossible to complete the setup.

Interestingly, when generating an onion address for the admin interface of StartOS, StartOS does show an SSL toggle correctly. The client connection interface does not offer this option at all.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Go to Services → SimpleX
  2. Try to create a new onion connection for client use
  3. Error appears — no SSL option is available

Expected behavior

The client interface should expose an SSL option for onion services, the same way the admin interface does.

Environment

  • StartOS version: 0.4.0-beta.9
  • SimpleX package version: 6.5.0:3
  • TOR package version: 0.4.9.9:1

Thanks for the clear report — looks like this is a known beta bug, not anything you’re doing wrong. The same issue showed up on CLNRest last week (same StartOS version, same cause) and the team fixed it quickly: https://community.start9.com/t/cant-connect-zeus-to-clnrest-onion-interface/5246

I’ve passed your report along to the dev team, so a fix should be on the way — hang tight

Thanks for the quick response and for passing it along to the dev team! Good to know it’s a known issue and not something on my end. I’ll keep an eye out for the fix and hang tight in the meantime.

Turns out that bug to fix was in Tor service. Fix is already done and deployed in alpha registry. Should be shortly in production registry after successful testing. You will need to update your Tor service.
