Sparrow Wallet Not Connecting On New Electrum Server

Recently installed Start OS on Dell Optiplex 7050 mini. It is working fine. Both Bitcoin core and Electrum server is running. I also have an instance of Sparrow wallet that has been up and running for a long time. I have used it many times with public nodes. However when I carefully followed the instructions and try to connect my sparrow wallet to my private electrum server it does not work. It immediatley gives me the error “could not connect. failed to resolve address” it then has my address.onion and local after it. Both devices are on the same LAN. What am I missing? I have rebooted and tried it several times. Sparrow always remembers my previous settings. Am I supposted to connnect my laptop with Sparrow on TOR first? Thanks.

Hello guys. I got it working. It appears that I had some extra characters in the address box on sparrow from a previous implementation. I removed them and it worked perfectly. Yay!

Also I was on the TOR Network and it found it fine.

Thanks. It is working well. I moved to the next part of my testing. This is being able to access my node while traveling with my laptop. And not having my laptop sitting on the same LAN. In this case it was a curios problem. My Sparrow wallet running on my Laptop was able to find my private electrum server quickly and easily when running on an external network. Big thumbs up.

However my Start OS services running on my Laptop could not connect to my Bitcoin core or Electrum Server. It stayed in a perpetual yellow connecting condition. How do I get my laptop to find my Bitcoin Node and Electrum server across the Internet? Is this a TOR issue? Under Marketplace I received an “error gateway timeout” message.

Using Sparrow on a laptop away from home and accessing the marketplace are two separate issues but might be related.

Sparrow - This has Tor built in. You add an electrum server, in this case your Electrs .onion interface, click Test, confirm it works and that’s it.

When this doesn’t work, it could be because… i) Tor is not working on your Server, ii) Tor is being interfered with on your laptop (i.e. running Windows and having Tor Browser open)

Marketplace - Assuming you aren’t trying to interact with StartOS via an already open tab to your unique .local address (obviously that won’t work away from home), as per the guides you need to be using a your StartOS dashboard .onion found under System → About → Web Addresses. You can only open this in a Tor -enabled browser, and what you’d use would depend on how you followed your setup guides. If you’re not using a Tor enabled browser, then you’ll get an error message. If you are, and you’re accessing your unique .onion, you’d likely get an error message if your server is not running Tor properly. (Try fixing this by going to System → Experimental Features → Reset Tor and then checking the logs at System->Tor Logs to see if Bootstrapping gets to 100%)

In the case that Tor won’t connect (on the server) and that you can’t access the market place at the same time, then this is likely an issue with your router.

Great. This is very helpful. I will work on this today. Sparrow wallet is not working. So it must be something between my server and my laptop running TOR and marketplace. I will get back to you shortly.

Great news. It worked. So when I want to access locally obviously use the local address. And my sparrow wallet private electrum server both working. Then when I am in a remote location i use the unique .onion address that is in System. I am feeling much better about this. Its been a long road to get here.

Another question I am running into. When in the local address I can see both my Bitcoin core server and my Electrum server and they are up and running. I have a green connection bar at the bottom. However when I go to Marketplace now. There is a green warning bar at the top. Which says “services are packaged and maintained by the start9 team.” But non of the services are visible anymore. It is all grayed out. I have waited. I have reconnected but marketplace shows now available services anymore. This was working yesterday. Any ideas on what this could be? Under the updates section it is grayed out also. But i can get to Bitcoin core running and Electrum fine.

I got this problem figured out also. I just kept messing around with it and restarting and eventually the Apps started showing up in Marketplace again.

I’d keep an eye on this. Whether an overzealous router firewall or a loose ethernet cable, it’s weird to keep having lots of little different connection issues.

Understand. This is the shakeout period.

Seems to be working well. I did lose connection once on the local Chrome interface. But I think I figured this out. It appears that maybe my Nord VPN is a bit too protective. And when my personal laptop goes to sleep or overnight. When i bring it back up. Nord tends to block random applications or browsers. Forcing me to totally shut Nord down. And allow all applications and browsers to connect clean. Security tools always seem to cause some kind of problem.
