SSH into StartOS to install simple proxy using Datum gateway service instructions

Followed instructions in Datum service and after node reboot, its stuck at this message:

GRUB loading.
Welcome to GRUB!

error: file ‘/grub/i386-pc/normal.mod’ not found.
grub rescue>

And leaves me a cursor there to type.
Im out of my scope, no clue what to do from here!

The Datum guide can be boiled down to…

  1. Install Datum
  2. Run chroot-and-upgrade and apt install simpleproxy -y
  3. Create a systemctl

While it’s not completely impossible that you can kill GRUB, destroy your partitions and break StartOS with chroot-and-upgrade (which is why its not recommended or supported), it isn’t possible to do so with the instructions provided.

Assuming you didn’t do anything else other than follow the instructions, this would imply that this would have happened regardless of what you were doing the next time you restarted the server, and suggests some kind of issue with the SSD. The only way back to reflash and recover.

Not sure what happened. Thought I was very meticulous.

I reloaded starOS from flash and everything came back fine.
