Start OS wont stay connected

My server wont stay connected to wifi for the entire day. Every few hours it disconnects and wont connect again. I have to unplug the server and plug it back in for it to connect. I have a vpn, and allow LAN connections is enabled. Also, when I try to restart the software in the sytem setting it wont connect. I have to unplug it. What am I missing here?

Wifi is not recommended for an always on server, as it’s much less reliable. There are also many variables which can contribute to this unreliability. The recommended setup would be to have your server sitting next to your router, and connected to it via Ethernet.

But if you want to troubleshoot your wireless network, rebooting the router is probably the best place to start.

It is plugged into the router with an ethernet cable. I have unplugged the router and server multiple times. Oddly enough, the power went out yesterday, and now this morning is the first time it stayed connected through the night. Im assuming that the modem needed reset, only because I never did that. I’ll keep checking. Thank you for your time.

Yeah, it still wont stay connected for more than a few hours. My laptop, tv, phone, and bitaxe all stay connected. My server is the only thing plugged into the router with ethernet cable and it doesnt stay connected. So Im trying to troubleshoot the router but dont know what settings might help it. Any ideas?

Like @Rexter said, there’s a million variables here.
You could try a different port on the router, then reset the router.
How is your VPN setup? That could lead to all sorts of issues.
Is this a DIY StartOS server or from our store?
Let me know. We’ll get it worked out!

Ok. I tried using different ports on the router. No luck. The vpn is installed on the tv and not on the router. I turned it completely off anyway just to check. No luck. The Start9 server one is from you guys and not a DIY. Also, if I dont unplug the server and restart it, it wont connect again. I let it buffer for a day and nothing. And still when I try to restart the server from System>Restart it says error: gateway timeout, and wont let me. The router is a month old so I think it has up to date features. I just dont know what settings, if any, might need changed. ?

Just to update, I have tried all of the diffrent ports on the router. Same issue. Might be worth noting, when the server isnt connecting, it is VERY warm to touch. The power pack is cool. I also noticed that the power button on the front of the server doesnt work. The blue light stays lit no matter how many times I press it. After all of that, when I unplug the server and plug it back in it connects again. I unplug it three times a day. Any ideas?

After 5 days of buffering the server did not ever connect. I went down and unplugged it and it finally connected. I understand that there may be many variables to this problem, but please entertain me on this. If the problem is the server, what can be done?
