Hi,
This weekend I migrated to Start9 0.4.0-beta. Today an update appeared related to migrating services from the old version. After installing the update, the computer would no longer boot. It showed the message: “Cannot open access to console, the root account is locked.”
I reinstalled the OS with data preservation.
For the rest, 0.4 is running much smoother! Thanks.
Sounds like you have a keyboard and monitor hooked up to your server… any reason? What are you trying to do?
Is it not allowed to connect a keyboard and monitor? I work remote and local.
Servers typically aren’t interacted with as personal computers, and StartOS isn’t designed to be used that way. Kiosk mode is more for debugging and emergencies. You should try to use it as per guides – the upgrade guide for 040 does not mention kiosk mode, which makes me wonder what else you might be skipping/improvising.
If this is mentioned in the guides, I will follow it. I will try the update again without using the console. I understand that servers are not meant to be used like personal computers, but I have also never experienced a KVM switch causing any issues. In any case, I will follow the guides. It’s a very nice OS by the way. Thanks for the help.
My understanding is that you correctly installed StartOS and on booting with a screen you see no GUI window manager. Only you know what stage you got to. Did you get a .local assigned? Did you set a password? I only ask because trying to install with a monitor you might not be paying attention to all these headless important details.
Also, what hardware is this?
