Hi,

My StartOS server is freezing at least once per day.

When server freezes, it doesn’t shut down and ethernet lights are blinking. Also, I have noticed that it isn’t listed in LAN devices list when checking on the router. Of course, I can’t reach server through browser or SSH (ssh start9@192.168.1.100
ssh: connect to host 192.168.1.100 port 22: No route to host
)

I have tried with connected monitor, mouse and keyboard, but screen is black. When restarted, everything works normal for a day or less.

As this was happening every day, yesterday I have opened SSH connection on my laptop and in terminal run sudo journalctl -xefa. As you can notice the last line in log is nextcloud.

I am not sure is it the nextcloud service a reason for server failure so will appreciate is someone can check the log and see it something else.

Typically things like this are a result of hardware. Whether this is a driver issue, or something wrong with the SSD or RAM can depend. But it would full logs to try and find a pattern, specifically logs that cover the moment where things went wrong.

I take it this is DIY hardware and not something you bought from Start9?

It’s very unlikely for a service inside a docker container to affect the whole OS. But if for some reason you were sure the issue was Nextcloud and this happens every day… simply stop Nextcloud to confirm your hypothesis.

StartOS is installed on the mini PC (GMKTEC M5 PLUS, 5825U).

I would like to mention that for last 3 months I was running startos in Virtualbox (MX Linux) on that minipc. I am currently using Raspiblitz but as some of my friends are interested to run their nodes I decided to get familiar with StartOS because Raspiblitz is all terminal and I don’t see that they will use it easily.

This Monday I have decided to install StartOS on bare metal and problems started. This is the main reason why I doubt that hardware is a problem, but who knows. I don’t know is it possible that there is some conflict because I have 2 mini pc’s in the same router, one with Raspiblitz and one with StartOs?

I notice in that there is same problem with another user: Backup of log files - #3 by Dtex

So on this machine there was no problem running StartOS in the VM, but running it on the bare metal it’s seemingly unstable? If that’s the case, I’d come to the conclusion that there’s a component in this machine that doesn’t have a driver in StartOS. I assume you’re already using the non-free ISO, but if even that doesn’t work, you may want to wait and try with the next version of StartOS with a newer linux kernel.

Just one last question because something strange now happened.

I have unplugged mini pc from router and bring it closer to my second PC so I can play with it. Then tried to login at Reserved IP Address 192.168.1.100 to MAC address 84-47-09-44-ED-A4, but unsuccessfully.

The router have changed StartOS MAC and IP address of the mini PC:

Device name

start-001

MAC address

84-47-09-44-ED-A3 (before: 84-47-09-44-ED-A4)

IPv4 adddress

192.168.1.9

Is this normal?

Also, WIFI is not working(RPC ERROR: WiFi Internal Error No WiFi interface available)

90% of all issue with not being able to contact the server or the server “freezing” have nothing to do with the server and are instead something to do with network setup or DIY hardware – something we can’t possibly help you with. Looks like your hardware has some kind of random MAC addressing that also means the router treats it as a new device each time. But as I say, I’m not sure and I can’t be sure what’s normal with your hardware.
